That was until a "great miracle" happened where multiple people with superpowers would appear on Earth. A corporation called Unilluminated turned these superpowered people into superheroes! Rumors are going around the world that the corporation is corrupt and their heroes are supervillains hiding as heroes. Now with the new generation of heroes who are shown to save more and act kinder than the corporation heroes, there's going to be a big fight to show which type of hero will win! June 3rd, 2025 marked the beginning of the end. An unmarked refrigerated truck veered off the road in southern Virginia and took a passenger car into a ditch. The incident made the news as a tragic but trivial event that initially resulted in zero deaths. Within two weeks, everyone involved in the accident, including the first responders, perished due to a mysterious disease later called FRV, or False Revival Virus. Apt to its name, victims of FRV would succumb after several days of worsening symptoms and unshakeable dread before rising again within minutes. Upon reanimation, the infected devolved into aggressive, cannibalistic corpses. It was only a matter of time before the highly contagious disease spread rapidly over county and state lines. Government-sponsored and dutifully monitored quarantine zones promised safety near major cities. Within months, over half of them had fallen. The failures of quarantine zones had sparked motivation in those ambitious enough to tackle the need for community in these trying times, knowing that was what it would take for humanity to pull through the nightmare victorious. Vandermill, a settlement in upstate New York, claims it was among the first to erect walls. Upon the arrival of August 2026, it’d been over a year since the world, as it was once known, had ceased to exist. However, it also marked the first anniversary of Vandermill’s establishment. The flourishing community has managed to stay afloat. Dangers of FRV are prevalent, but that doesn’t even begin to address the threat survivors pose to each other. The dominant species in this world, the Luminids, are anthropomorphic animals with a twist. Almost every Luminid is born with traits from a completely random species. For example, the offspring of a fox and an avian could result in anything from a reptile, to a tiny mouse. As they age, many Luminids may develop new traits, like powers, mutations, or abilities that don't quite match their given species nor seem to line up with their ancestry.
