Mindflayers, creatures of great evil, kidnapped and harboored citizens of Faerun aboard a Nautiloid, infecting them with illithid tadpoles. Before they underwent the transformation process, known as Ceremorphosis, the Mindflayers' ship was attacked and crashed landed on the sword coast. Survivors of the Nautiloid crash washed up along the coast, disoriented but alive. The survivors quickly discovered the transformation process, known as Ceremorphosis, was underway with individuals illithid tadpoles infecting their minds. Before they unwittingly turned into Mindflayers, the survivors quickly discovered the tadpoles were mercifully intercepted with the tadpole. With a cure for their illithid parasitic infection available to them, the infected survivors set out to Mindeflayers, ready to turn into Mindflayers, drastically discovered each intercepted with the tadpole. This granted them the ability to connect their minds, but only for a few seconds. Without a cure for their illithid parasitic infection, the infected survivors turned into Mindflayers, turning on each other riots and fear ensued with the tadpole granting them the security of an undergrouning ceremorphosis, they were effectively infested with the tadpole.
